Let’s be real: sometimes with all of life’s demands and the busy lifestyle of being a student or a working adult, it feels like you’re losing your head. We all have felt that way before, but you don’t need to. One key to finding peace with yourself and your life is to have a creative outlet. This week the Retreat at Tucson blog is offering you some tips to expressing yourself by making a self-portrait, in or outside of your apartment in Arizona.
October is the month for everything pumpkin, so the Retreat at Tucson blog is taking part in the trend by celebrating National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day on October 21st. It may or may not be an official national holiday, but we’ll embrace any chance to eat this delicious dessert when we can (and October is the perfect time to do it!). You don’t have to just celebrate on this day, though. Here are four recipes for you to try this month to celebrate this lesser known holiday.

Have you ever tried a “room escape” game? In these activities, a group of friends is locked inside a room filled with puzzles and hidden clues that they have to solve in order to escape before the time runs out and certain (fictional) doom falls upon them. Most teams don’t make it. Will you?
Check out this great video for an explanation on how fun room escape games can be. Meanwhile, we’ve gathered together a list of a few places around The Retreat at Tucson for an exciting room escape adventure, along with some Yelp reviews to let you know a bit about what you can expect. If you go, let us know in the comments how it went!
“I’ve done quite a few escape rooms around the country in the last year and this one is definitely at the top of my list! Difficult but not impossible. My group escaped with 1 minute 32 seconds to spare. Great for team building or just a fun excursion with friends. A must do whether you live in Tucson or you’re just visiting.” — Stevie W.
“Very friendly staff. Both rooms are fantastic. Was fun working as a team to put all the clues together and escape. Wasn’t sure if we were going to make it out of the art studio, but [we] made it out just in time!” — Bobby S.
“I’ve been to Escape Room Tucson on 4 different occasions. Every [room] is so different. It’s such a great time with friends every time! They have 8 new rooms I’m excited to try!! I can’t wait!” — Lillie B.
“What an amazing experience! I have tried other escape rooms in Tucson and this one is by far the best. We did the bank room. It is very interactive and keeps you engaged the entire time. If you’re looking for a fun night out, date night, or just something different then this is it. [Thank you,] Fox in a Box for keeping me entertained.” — Angela S.
Summer may be over, but in Arizona, it is barbecue season all year round. Now, you can go out and grill your own delicious dinner, but if you’re looking for something easier or a little different, why not go out and try some Korean barbecue? We’ve gathered a list of a few of the Korean restaurants closest to The Retreat at Tucson to help you out. We’ve also included a few reviews from Yelp to help you pick the one you want to visit first.
Princess Ann (Audrey Hepburn) escapes her country’s embassy for a day to play hooky with an American journalist, Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck). While Joe tries to get the story of his life, Ann lives up her one day of freedom.
The Sandlot (1993)
Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) spends a memorable summer out on the sandlot playing baseball with some new friends. Smalls and his friends practice their pitches, run bases, and fend off the Beast — their mysterious neighbor’s English Mastiff.
Say Anything… (1989)
Diane Court (Ione Skye) is valedictorian of her high school, winner of a prestigious fellowship, and a faithful aide at her father’s nursing home. Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) is a high school slacker who doesn’t know what he’s going to do with his life. They fall in love the summer after graduation.
Rear Window (1953)
L.B. “Jeff” Jeffries (Jimmy Stewart) is bored in his New York apartment after having broken his leg on a photography assignment. He begins watching his neighbors through his open windows. He watches them dance, cry, laugh, and suffer unbearable loneliness. He also witnesses—maybe—a murder. It’s up to Jeff, his girlfriend Lisa (Grace Kelly), and his nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) to solve it.
An American In Paris (1951)
Painter Jerry Mulligan (Gene Kelly) is in love with a charming French girl, Lise (Leslie Caron). Henri (Georges Guetary) is in love with Lise, as well. Love gets mixed up and then set right in this cheerful classic. Kelly sings and dances along to Gershwin classics like “I Got Rhythm,” “Our Love Is Here to Stay,” and “‘S Wonderful.”
